Dr. Franziska Bergmann: Exoticism: History, Discourse, Aesthetics

Dr. Franziska Bergmann is Associate Professor of Comparative Literature at Aarhus University with research interests in German and Western European literature from the 18th century to the present, exoticism, interculturality, drama, poetry, gender studies. Her research and teaching focuses on German-language, Western European and Anglo-American literature from the 17th century to the present. In her habilitation project (completed in 2021), Dr. Bergmann looked at the aesthetics of exoticism in German and Western European literature and culture from the late 18th to the early 20th century; her dissertation (completed in 2012) examines gender transgressions in German-language and Anglophone drama at the turn of the millennium.
