This course introduces students to some of the key works of twentieth-century German literature and cinema with a focus on the developments in sciences and technology. How did authors and filmmakers respond to the challenges posed by modern sciences and technological developments? How did they capture the shocking experience of modernity in their works? To what extent did the new technological media alter the way they understood aesthetics? What is the relationship between modernist and avant-garde experimentations in literature, cinema and theater, and technology? Conducted in German.
