In this course, students explore contemporary German poetry as both cultural object and creative endeavor while regularly writing and revising their own poems and translations. Readings include poems by living German poets and translators, as well as interviews with poets and translators, blog posts on major German literary websites, and essays. Students will receive feedback on their poetic and interpretive work from both peers and professors, and revision of writing is a key aspect of the course. This course is taught entirely in German, and the majority of texts are in German. Recommended prerequisite: German 204 or equivalent. Not open to native speakers of German.
