The volume goes back to the conference "The upright walk in the crooked capitalism", which took place in January 2016 in Weimar. Their goal was to bring together different traditions, to visualize models of critical thinking and to open up new perspectives of social theory.
The contributions are devoted to the location of critical theories. They reflect on their origins, explore their time-diagnostic potential and document their interdisciplinary character. The "upright walk" (Ernst Bloch) in thinking means not to be intimidated by the superiority of the existing, to resist conformist acceptance like irrational meaning and to keep the possibility of the new, the utopia alive.
