„Betroffenheitskino: Cinema of Consternation.”

This research examines the affect of consternation and offers it as the primary emotion involved in the much-maligned sub-genre: Betroffenheitskino. The study contributes an analysis of a new film movement spearheaded by Black authors in German cinema that rejects consternation favoring positive affects. Representations of unfettered Black mobility in Europe and a focus on respect rather than belonging characterize this movement's films. Through textual analysis of Black-authored German moving image over fifty years, Karina Griffith identifies the cinematic strategies of affective representation through common choices and techniques in editing, mise en scène and cinematography
