Key texts (literary, philosophical, and political) from the Enlightenment (18th century); periods of emancipation and assimilation, and rising political anti-Semitism (19th century); as well as Weimar, Nazi, and postwar periods (20th century). Authors include Moses Mendelssohn, Lessing, Franzos, Droste-Hülshoff, Marx, Schnitzler, as well as contemporaries such as Korn, Broder, and Biller. Taught in English. One course.
